Lead Health Management Projects
Working with North-West Health and Hospital Service in Mount Isa in Queensland to implement the 'Lead Health Management Project'.
The project received funding from the Queensland Health Department for three months to implement this training program.
The town of Mount Isa has a mine which produces a number of toxins and lead dust which is in the environment but greater levels are seen in a mining town.
The aim of this project was to introduce a management protocol to meet NHMRC (National Health Medical Research Council) guidelines, with a referral pathway for children who demonstrated high levels of capillary blood.
The program has developed a training package for staff, a packager using LeadCare II analyser machine to a level which is consistent across four implementation sites, which has been developed in conjunction with health promotion organisations to promote the service for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
